“Souls of the Fighting 54th” Oil on Wood Panel 14”x18” The Volunteers of the Massachusetts 54th Regiment, were made up of free Black Men from the Northern American states. Among this army of educated and aware African-American soldiers, were Boys of 16 and 17 years old, who knew too well the necessary sacrifices of the US Civil War. If you’ve ever seen the Film “Glory”, then you’re familiar with their legacy. I felt I needed to be stronger at painting people of color, and I made the commitment to give this story a revival. There are not many classical paintings depicting these themes, but I have plans to make some powerful compositions to show these stories. This painting comes framed, free shipping!
